Are you still enjoying summer?
What is your favorite part of summer?
When you talk to people from different parts of the country they
all have different things that they like about summer.
(***Note at the end of this post is a recipe for Grilled Peaches***)
What tops your list of the most enjoyable times?
Here are some of the activities I hear the most about.
Of course there is boating and fishing. What about
backyard grilling and barbecuing? Now there are several
treats just for summer as far as fresh fruits and veggies,
and most can be grilled even though you never thought about
doing that.
Some people set up elaborate areas for their summer cooking
season. Do you ever walk into your favorite outdoor store and
see all the ideas you can get for setting up your grilling area?
People who love to grill and barbecue love to get gifts that go
along with it. Perhaps a nice bottle of wine, or some sauces, or
marinades, or salsas for the spicey foods.
Here are some ebay gift ideas for your grilling experience, or
to get a friend as a gift.
There are several great recipe books out now. Use my link
to get a nice book or perhaps a great salsa collection.

***Ok here is the grilled peach recipe.
Ingredients:
* Peaches, 1 for each person You want fresh peaches for this not canned or frozen.
* 1/2 cup sherry vinegar or balsamic vinegar….More people are liking this with balsamic
* 1/4 cup brown sugar…You can substitute 2 tablespoons of honey if you want
* juice of 1 lemon…average sized fresh lemon or about 1/8 cup to 1/4 cup concentrate
* 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Preparation:
Cut the fresh peaches in halve, remove pits. Leave the skin on the peaches.
Drizzle with about 2 teaspoons of the lemon juice. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside.
In a small saucepan, combine vinegar, brown sugar, remaining lemon juice and black pepper. Boil until reduced by about 1/2.
Place peaches cut-side down on a hot lightly oiled grill. Cover and cook for about 2 minutes, or until there are grill marks. This is a fast process so be sure to
stand by the grill when doing this.
Turn the peaches over and baste the cut sides with the vinegar mixture.
Cover the grill and cook for about 3 more minutes, or until softened.
This is an awesome dessert and you can add some ice cream to it, and crumble up
some gram crackers for a crunch, or add some of your favorite nuts to it.
This is a summer time grilling treat the whole family will love.
Yummy! Enjoy!
Why A Blender Makes A Great Gift
Posted by: | Comments
- Image by elvisripley via Flickr
There are thousands of uses for a blender. Whether or not you own one already, it is a small appliance that you should consider owning and using if you do not have one already. People used to joke about getting the blender as a gift, but as people get more into healthy lifestyles the blender is gaining respect.
Restaurants and gourmet cooks know the value of a good blender. They are fast, efficient, and very easy to clean. They have a long life span if you use it properly, too.
Here are some blender buying tips for you to help you make your blender buying decisions.
Blenders are used to create healthy food and drinks for you and
your family. If you are on a specific diet plan or have turned
vegetarian, you will be amazed by the usefulness of this small
appliance. Now is a great time to buy a new blender. Here are
some tips on how to find a good blender.
1. You can never go wrong by choosing the best brands.
One of the best blender brands in the market year after year is
the Oster. The company has the honor in the appliance field of
having the name “blenders” often called “osterizers”. This is
the same way that you often hear “tissues” called “Kleenex”.
The Oster brand blenders are the top of the line, and might be
the most expensive. However, it is known for being sturdy, and
worth the money. Especially if you are going to make shakes
and smoothies, or protein blended drinks often. These drinks
necessitate crushing hard ice to give them that extra special
taste and texture.
If you are going to be crushing coffee beans, the Oster blender
will not have any problem with multiple uses. You can also use
the blender to chop nuts for garnishes or to add to cooking.
If you are going to use the blender for mainly making purees or
juices, and not crushing a lot of ice, you can probably settle
for the cheaper brands that are also well suited for this
purpose. While a cheaper blender will crush ice, nuts, and
coffee beans, remember not to overdo it just in case. Pay
attention to how hard your blender is having to work to complete
these tasks.
2. Do not buy a used blender
If you can avoid buying a used blender, you should. Used
blenders can last a long time, but you never know how much wear
and tear it has on it, or how it was stored and taken care of.
Your blender will be a well used appliance so getting a new one
gives you the advantage of being able to exchange it if you are
not completely happy with it. However, if you are sure that the
second hand blender has not been used often, then it will
probably be a good buy, and you can learn whether or not you
want to upgrade to a new one in the near future.
If you are going to buy a used blender you should check the
product and make sure that there are no cracks in the container
and the stainless steel blades are in good shape. Check the
seals on the blender, too, so you know that it is not going to
leak, and make sure there are no oil leaks or grease built up
around the base.
3. Get a blender powerful enough to meet your needs.
The amount of power a blender has will vary by the model and the
manufacturer. Not all blenders are the same. You will want to
know if the type of blender you are considering will be able to
crush a lot of ice, if you want to make lots of drinks that need
it. Remember there are a lot of blender types available, and
get your questions answered before you buy.
Making purees, or crushing cooked veggies, or most raw veggies,
won’t need the same power requirements as a blender that you
want to use for making peanut butter, or grinding a lot of coffee.
4. Pick the size of a blender that fits your kitchen.
There are different sizes of blenders now, and there are even
different colors of the same model. When you shop for a blender
have an idea where you want to keep it. Look for one that has
the size that meets your storage needs.
To summarize, there are several blender choices available now
including different sizes, power for a variety of purposes, and
price ranges. When you are ready to buy a new blender be aware
of what you are going to want to use it for, and how often you
plan on using it. Blenders can and should be used daily to add
to a healthy diet, and just making good food and beverages.
Find a blender that you are going to enjoy using over and over.

Inflatable Kayaks
Posted by: | Comments
Kayak Transportation
If you have not looked at inflatable kayaks and boats lately perhaps you should take a new look at them, because they have come a long way in a few short years. It seemed like it would be a hassle to get the air in them, or to wait to get the air out of them, but it is not.
I have a kevlar/fiberglass kayak that travels on the roof of my car. Since I am lazy I try to leave it on there for as long as possible so I go more often in the summer. I have some great locking car racks and straps that also lock. It is very secure. I also have a big dog that is in the yard most of the time. I guess all of that helps.
The other day I went to the lake and I was unloading my kayak and this guy is there looking at the water. I notice him go up to his car, carry something down near the water and start inflating it with a foot pump. I thought there was no way he would get in the water before me, but he did. He was long gone before I got launched.
Probably a draw back for me is that I put my kayak on wheels and roll it to the water and then I have to take the wheels back to my car. I park near the water to load and unload my kayak, but still it is a walk. All this takes more time than he took. Once I get back to my car I have to move it.
Once I am in the water the time it took to do all this does not even matter. However it is just part of the list of things to consider when you are deciding whether to go inflatable or not when getting your first kayak.
If you want to take your kayak traveling with you, consider looking at the inflatables.
Let me know what type of kayak you have.

Kayak Fishing Newport Dunes
Posted by: | CommentsA lot of people are taking up kayak fishing. There are organizations and tournaments, and it really looks like a lot of fun to. It is a relaxing way to spend
some time whether or not you catch any fish. I am not sure if I would eat anything
I caught in the Newport Beach, California, back bay.
If you enjoy fishing, and do not want the investment of a fishing boat, take a look at kayak fishing or maybe even tube fishing. I see people doing both when I am out kayaking, and they are always looking relaxed and to be having a great day. Most have even caught fish. Those who haven’t are still having a great time.
Eventually I might add a fishing kayak to my toys and see if I can enter the tournaments. It seems like it would be a great way to spend some time. However for now I am happy to kayak and take pictures.
Here is the video. To zoom in or out use the “ctrl” key and the “+” or “-” key. Keep pressing the “+” or “-” while holding down the “ctrl” key to watch the video and see what some of these fishing kayaks look like.

Kayaking Saftey Tips
Posted by: | CommentsI have been kayaking now for quite a few years, and I am mostly a flat water kayaker. Since I live closer to flat water than the ocean I just drive to a nearby lake to go. In the summertime my kayak rarely leaves the roof of my car unless it is in the water. I took the video that is on this post at a kayak demo in Newport Beach, California at Newport Dunes. It is great to go to kayak demos. I always have fun when I take the time to go.
It is difficult to find people to go with where I live but having the kayak on my car starts a lot of conversations with people who love to go kayaking, too. I enjoy the solitary trips because I am on my own time table. Some days I spend hours just watching birds or following fish around. I am not sure how many other people would want to do that.
If you are considering your first kayak purchase, I recommend that you go to a demo and try out all of them to see what suits you. More and more people are getting the inflatable kayaks, and I do not blame them. They install in minutes, and look like just as much fun as my Kevlar/fiberglass one. I really like my kayak though and am very happy with it.
To watch the video and see it larger, use the “zoom” feature in “View” or just use the “ctrl’ and “+” key repeatedly. To return to normal view just use the “ctrl” and the “-” key.

What is summer without a visit to a swimming pool? How many kids can get through summer without a place to swim? Now with the age of portable pools, several people are setting them up in their own back yard. They can be set up for the season, or if you live in a nicer climate they can be left up year round.
Are you looking for gifts for someone who owns a swimming pool, or are you looking for a filtering system or more toys for your very own pool? With today’s economy and the price of traveling to a nice resort area or a beach location, you might consider investing in a swimming pool instead. Instead of driving you can be enjoying your home more and the stress of going away on vacation less.
See what is new in the world of portable pools. There are some ideas on this page. Plus I will have a page for pool accessories very soon and you can follow the links to that as well.
If there are no pictures of portable backyard swimming pools, here is a direct link to find some great deals on Portable Swimming Pools and Accessories.

Happy July 4 USA!
Posted by: | Comments
- Image by BL1961 via Flickr
July 4th has to be one of the favorite holidays in the USA. It is a day where we can reflect on our freedom. It is a day of picnics, good food, family, friends, or a day at the beach, or lake, or hiking, camping. However you spend the day, it has to be a day of reflection for anyone in the USA.
July 4th, is like the Thanksgiving Day of the summer time. I think it should be more than one day for celebration no matter what day of the week it falls on. It is such a festive day. The USA is a Republic. One Nation Under God! The United States has seen so much prosperity over the years. We have a lot to be grateful for, and I know several people who are.
If you would like to support a US Military person, please visit this site to find out how you can send them something to read. I have friends in the Military. They have to serve in conditions and are assigned jobs that I can not imagine doing. I would appreciate it if I can help in some small way. If you fee the same, please click on the banner below.
Thank you for your support.
The Beach Store
Posted by: | Comments
- Image via Wikipedia
Summertime fun usually involves some type of water. Whether you are lounging around your swimming pool, or spending a vacation at the beach resort, or even a day trip to the lake or ocean, you are going to need to take some items with you.
There are some popular items that I can think of such as shade tents, nice beach towels, floatable chairs or mats. What about chairs with cup holders and umbrellas? This does not even include coolers, or portable bar-b-ques (did I spell that right?). I wanted to put together some items that you might be looking for to make your summer vacation more enjoyable.
Don’t forget the sun screen! How often have you forgotten that? Plus I usually always take a first aid kit with me, no matter where I go.

Welcome To Rocky’s Gifts
Posted by: | Comments
- Image via Wikipedia
Hi everyone,
Welcome to Rocky’s Gifts. I have always wanted to have a gift store and now I have started one. Hopefully this blog will be more than a shopping site, because I also love to write and have a few blogs running around the net. Along with a place to find cool gift ideas I will be adding tips on new gadgets that people might find interesting and/or fun.
When I think of gifts I do think of the standards, food, flowers, clothes. If I know what my readers want it can help me to find it. One thing that I will have is a beach store. I love the ocean, lakes, and rivers. I have never lived too far from water so I am lucky and spoiled in that respect.
So I hope you enjoy the water, too, because the beach store will be going. I will be open to suggestions because I realize that not everyone can go to the beach year round in every part of the world or the USA.
I am going to feature a lot of ebay auctions on this blog to add to the excitement of getting an item, so if you plan on buying that way you are going to have to be aware of the time constraints. I am looking forward to this site, and have a lot of ideas for items that will interest everyone and posts to go with it.
Thanks for being a part of this website.
